Expectations…

Boy was I wrong on so many fronts…

I recently had a procedure done for my HyperParathyroidism (four small glands in the neck) super close in proximity to your Thyroid but have absolutely nothing to do with your Thyroid!

Your Parathyroid gland regulates your calcium and when that isn’t functioning properly a Parathyroidectomy is preformed. From the research & viewing youtube videos on actual surgery I seriously expected a pretty painless outpatient surgery – feeling back to normal within a few days….

I had two hours of anesthesia….a few painkillers later I felt like i was hit by a truck…many more unpleasantries followed (vomiting, headaches more gnarly stuff) about 5 days later I was beginning to feel semi normal again….

My amazing sister was my caregiver & together we made plans to shop til we dropped for a Mother-of-the-Groom dress for her upcoming son’s wedding…needless to say that didn’t happen because I was expecting an entirely different outcome from surgery!

So setting Expectations are important for our need to feel safe & secure – knowing when & what something will happen or a perceived idea of it….

so continue to have EXPECTATIONS but always be willing be flexible when a different outcome presents itself
